Beer, just like any type of alcohol, can get a bad rap. But, there actually are some health benefits when you drink beer in moderation.
Here are some of the key benefits:
- Heart health - Beer, like wine, is good for your heart. Moderate beer drinkers had a 42% lower risk of heart disease compared to non-drinkers.
- Boost your creativity - In one study, 40 people watched a movie while completing verbal puzzles. The ones with a blood alcohol content of .075 solved the problems a few seconds faster than the ones who were sober.
- Reduce the risk of kidney stones - There was a study conducted in Finland that found that moderate consumption of beer can reduce the risk of developing kidney stones by 40%.
- Bone strength - Since beer contains silicon, it has been known to strengthen bones. A 2009 study showed that individuals who drank one to two glasses of beer a day had higher bone density.
- Workout recovery - A study had individuals exercise until their body temperature reached 104 degrees. Some of them rehydrated with water, some with beer.
